Of the 172 islands that make up the San Juan Archipelago, Orcas is, without a doubt, the most unique. From the moment we first arrived here in 1996 we were spellbound by the diversity of the landscape and the friendliness of the people. We found the tallest mountain in the San Juans (Mt. Constitution at 2,409′), a 5,500 acre state park with 30 miles of hiking trails, several inland lakes, rich farmlands, quaint villages, a dramatic rocky shoreline and numerous small pocket beaches. And, the laid-back life style said we were definitely off the beaten path. Although we lived in northern Nevada for 40 years and raised our children there, we love Orcas Island and are now proud to call it our home.
